The IELTS writing module allows you to answer question using detail and figures.

THE WRITING FORMAT:

This module is consisting of two tasks and duration of 60 minutes. The following describes the two tasks.

TASK ONE

The first task requires writing about 150 words with in 20 minutes; you will not be guided to manage the time. It is your duty to manage the time frame for each task.

In this task you will be given for example diagram, graph, table or chart (or some data) and you will be asked to representation this information in your own words.

TASK TWO

The second task has duration of 40minutes and word limits of 250. In this task, you will be presented with a of view or disagreement and you will be asked to share your opinion or solution to this problem by writing an essay. Extra knowledge is not needed to write the essay, as the topic will be on any general interest.

A WORD OF ADVICE

If you are unable to carry enough mark in task one, you can make it up in task two, as it contain more marks compare to task one.

ESTIMATION

A native English speaker who trained in assessment of IELTS writing tasks marks your writing. Usually, scores were full bands only specifically. Writing Band 6, but recently, half bands were introduced. It is now therefore possible to get a score of 5.5, 6.5, etc. for your writing score.

Writing has two parts:
a) Writing task 1
b) Writing task 2

IELTS – Writing Task 1
In the first part, you are given a task based on some graphic or pictorial information. You are expected to write a descriptive report of at least 150 words on the information provided.

IELTS – Writing Task 2
The second task is more demanding. You are expected to produce a written argument on a given topic and to organise your answer clearly, given some examples to support your points. You will have to write at least 250 words and, as Task 2 is longer than Task 1, you are advised to spend approximately 40 minutes on this task and 20 minutes on the first task.

IELTS General Writing
If you are planning to take the GT module, the Writing test is different. You are allowed one hour to complete two tasks, of 150 and 250 words, as in the Academic module. However, Task 1 is always a letter, while Task 2 is an essay based on a given topic.

How to write – writing task 1 ?
Structure of writing task 1 (The number of paragraphs depend on the topic)
Para 1: Introduction – Basic information based on topic.
Para 2: Body – Comparison between or among the trends.The number of paragraph in body depends on the number of topics.
Para 3: Conclusion – Overall comments based on the total figure.

Note: Certain things to avoid in writing
1. Repeated vocabulary (except preposition, article or determiner, auxiliary verb and terminology.
2. Symbolic words->
&,ie, Vs (except %, currency symbol, etc.)
3. Contracted form-> Don’t, Can’t
4. None visualised matter on task-1
